Shortly after the announcement of “Delusion,” one of Hongjacga’s popular webtoons, would be produced into a series and two of the hottest young actors of the moment, Ryu Jun-yeol and Han So-hee were cast as the protagonists, a scandal surrounding their romantic affairs was disclosed, sparking widespread suspicion.
Initially, the public’s focus was drawn to the uncanny resemblance between Han So-hee and the protagonist of “Delusion.” However, as Ryu Jun-yeol and Han So-hee were spotted on a date in Hawaii, doubts surfaced about the timing of Ryu Jun-yeol’s recent breakup with his ex-partner Hye-ri and the initiation of his new relationship with Han So-hee. Following this, both Hye-ri and Han So-hee took to social media to assert their opinions, escalating the scandal rapidly.
THE ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN RYU JUN-YEOL AND HYE-RI
Ryu Jun-yeol and Hye-ri shared the screen in the 2015 TVN series “Reply 1988,” portraying Jung-hwan and Deok-sun. In the drama, Deok-sun married Choi Taek portrayed by Park Bo-gum, disappointing the viewers who wanted to see them as a couple in the series. However, during a film festival of the year, their off-screen romantic behavior was publicly unveiled, hinting they became a real-life couple, much to the delight and support of their fans.
Since then, the couple maintained a stable and romatic relationship for eight years and were adored by many. However, in November 2023, their official separation was publicly announced, leaving behind a lingering sense of sorrow.
THE SIGHTING OF RYU JUN-YEOL AND HAN SO-HEE ON A DATE
On March 15th, a Japanese tourist’s account of witnessing Ryu Jun-yeol and Han So-hee on a date in Hawaii sparking a suspicion that the two were engaged in to romantic affairs. There is nothing to be concerned for the young people to get into the romatic relationships, but the timing raised eyebrows due to the ambiguity between Ryu Jun-yeol’s recent breakup with his ex-partner, Hye-ri, and initiation of this new relation. The split occurred in November, and if the new relationship started in March, it wouldn’t have escalated into a scandal despite the relatively short gap between the two. So, doubts arose about potential overlapping of the two relationships and even some even accused Ryu Jun-yeol of infidelity.

When Hye-ri took to social media to post a photo of a random street of Hawaii with the caption“interesting” and Han So-hee swiftly responded to it also on social media, the scandal was out of control.
Han So-hee has always been candid and uninhibited, as clearly seen in the gossip over her tattoos or smoking on her personal blog.
Delving into the timeline, news of Ryu Jun-yeol and Hye-ri’s split emerged on November 13th last year. According to Hye-ri, Ryu Jun-yeol allegedly proposed having a dialogue over their relationship after the breakup rumors surfaced in November, but there has been no mention from his side. Meanwhile, Han So-hee visited Ryu Jun-yeol’s solo exhibition on November 15th, posting a snapshot at the gate.
It appears that the scandal is drawing to a close with Hye-ri’s explaination of the timeline and apologies for her rash behavior. Perhaps, this scandal stemmed from the difficulty of cleanly parting ways with a long-time partner. Nevertheless, however hard it may be, a proper farewell is a courtesy for romantic partners. Moreover, in this scandal, the fate of the production of “Delusion,” is already overshadowed by the scandal even before beginning.
